How to Make Strawberry Shortcake

Cooking Recipe

Ingredients:
1 & 1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup butter, cold
1 egg
1/2 cup plain yogurt
3 tbsp milk
5 cups strawberries, sliced
1 cup whipped cream
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F as you line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda together.

2. Add in 1/3 cup of very cold butter that has been cut into small pieces, using a pastry blender to cut the butter in until the batter is coarse crumbs. Whisk an egg and 1/2 cup of plain yogurt or sour cream with 3 tablespoons of milk, pouring these wet ingredients into the flour mixture.

3. Use a fork to stir the dough until it's just combined, but be careful not to overmix it. Drop the dough into 8 mounds onto the baking sheet, and barely round them for a rustic, homemade touch. Bake the strawberry shortcake dough for a little under 15 minutes. Slice 5 cups of strawberries lengthwise and toss them with 3 tablespoons of sugar to make the syrup.

4. For the whipped cream recipe, pour 1 cup of whipping cream into a chilled bowl and beat together with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla until it has soft peaks. Cut the strawberry shortcakes in half horizontally, spooning on the strawberries and whipped cream to layer them beautifully.
