Through meditative yoga, you can learn to turn off the noise inside your head and focus on your breathing, an incredibly calming activity. John Denninger, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, has been leading a study on the link between yoga and the reduction of stress and disease on the body. Denninger says that "the kinds of things that happen when you meditate do have effects throughout the body, not just in the brain.” Meditative yoga helps you inject the silence you never knew you needed into your otherwise busy life. Just try not to fall asleep in Shavasana pose (easier said than done!). Practicing yoga first thing in the morning can be an incredibly effective way of increasing your energy levels throughout the day. Like other types of exercise, yoga reduces fatigue, and certain poses have been shown to leave you feeling particularly energized. A study by the University of Oxford found that yoga was able to help healthy people of varied ages feel increases in their energy levels. The study concluded that just a half hour of yoga stretches and breathing exercises were enough to dramatically improve both the mental and physical energy levels of the subjects.Positive Affirmations for Confidence by Julie Montagu
