Taking action is key in moving forward towards reaching our goals. Once we know our objective and have a plan in place, its time to start executing through consistent actions. The key is to ensure we set ourselves up for success by removing distractions and are aware of any tendencies we may have towards procrastination. In this session Alister will lead you through a short writing task to inspire you to stay motivated with the implementation of your plans.
2. Strengthen Your Self-Belief
It’s not uncommon for us to doubt our own abilities, to fear the future and to question “am I good enough?”. We may spend countless hours comparing and self-judging, focusing on the things we don’t have and we can’t do, while forgetting to acknowledge all the things that we do have and all the things we can do! In today's exercise we will focus on cultivating a stronger sense of self-belief. We’re going to take a little time to celebrate our greatness, to reflect on our accomplishments and to remind ourselves of what we are capable of when we set our mind to it.
3. Problem Solving Made Simple
When we are feeling stressed, our ability to think clearly and rationally is often impaired. This can make solving problems difficult and we can often feel overwhelmed, unsure of what to do next. In today’s session Dr. Catherine will introduce you to a simple systematic approach to problem-solving to help you to take action and be more decisive in these tricky stressful times, where you’re not quite sure what to do. Following this approach when faced with a problem you’re not quite sure what to do about can help you to build confidence in your decision-making process.
4. Find Clarity and Focus
Stress easily accumulates when we have a long-do list, multiple deadlines and competing priorities. It’s very easy to end up living a life that is inconsistent with your personal values, spending lots of time and energy on things that perhaps aren’t what you really value as important. To help you to clarify your values, Dr. Catherine will guide you through a personal values exercise. This will enable you to clarify what is really important to you, to help you to start living more fully by your values and have a more fulfilling life.
5. Peaceful Mind Visualization
Visualization is an effective technique for managing both stress and anxiety. With practice, this technique can enable you to achieve a sense of relaxation in just a few minutes - perfect for when you’ve had a busy stressful day. In this session, Dr. Catherine will guide you through a visualization where you can imagine yourself in a peaceful and safe environment, somewhere that makes you feel calm, happy and relaxed. The more you practice this exercise, the more naturally you will be able to imagine yourself in your peaceful place, and the greater the relaxation effect will be.
6. Deep Breathing For Relaxation
To effectively combat stress, we need to elicit the relaxation response. This is a physical state of deep rest which involves a number of physical changes in the body - your blood pressure decreases, your breathing slows down, your metabolism decreases, your heart rate slows down and your muscles relax. In this session Dr. Catherine will guide you through a simple deep breathing technique.
7. One Minute Mindfulness - Visualization
Feeling tense and overwhelmed? Take one minute out of your busy day and join Dr Catherine for a soothing 'peaceful place' visualization. This short session will allow you to let go of any thoughts and feelings that are causing you to worry or experience anxiety today.
8. One Minute Mindfulness - Deep Breathing
When you are feeling stressed deep breathing is the fastest way to calm you down and find focus. Join Dr Catherine for this short and simple deep breathing exercise that will instantly calm your nervous system and relax the entire body. In less than one minute you can completely transform for physical and mental state for a more productive, focused and happy day.
9. Positive Affirmations for Confidence
Positivity goes a long way in helping you to build a happier life. An affirmation is a statement we say to ourselves in order to re-wire our thoughts. Much like exercise, the repetition of positive affirmations can raise our level of feel-good hormones and completely change our mood. In this session Julie will share with you, four of her favourite positive affirmations for greater confidence, self-love and gratitude.
10. Simple Positive Mindset Exercise
If you want to change your life and feel happier, the first thing to change is the relationship you have with your thoughts. Regardless of how successful, confident and healthy we are, everyone experiences moments of self-doubt and negative thought patterns. In this exercise, Julie will guide you through a simple five minute 'positive mindset' exercise that will allow you to reset your thinking and focus your attention towards more optimistic and happy thoughts.
