An Exclusive Interview With Sara Kominoski
Where do you live, work, and play?
Staten Island, New York! I consider myself a yogipreneur as far as work goes. I have been teaching at a large corporate gym for several years, smaller fitness studios, small yoga studios, martial arts studios, privately, host local retreats, organize and teach fun workshops for studios, or in the park teaching aerial! Find me playing with my yoga students and friends all the time! From practicing challenging poses, to inverting in aerial swings, to chilling and drawing henna designs on our hands and feet! How do you spend your days?
A typical weekday of Sara's starts out bright and early! Reading a book of choice, meditating for about 20 minutes to clear my mind and reset- then heading off to the gym or yoga studio for my own practice! I spend a lot of time organizing, so after my practice find me in the library getting work done, or a park if its sunny! Later on in the day ill be teaching classes.
What are you passionate about?
I am super passionate about yoga, fitness, and fun! My classes and workshops have a wonderful balance of all three. I love to work with people around the ‘quarter life crisis age’ because yoga brings peace and balance during stressful times! It sure did for me.
How did your journey to a yogic style of life begin?
My journey began at age 13, after taking yoga in a high school gym class! When many of my friends thought it was silly and made fun of the poses- I was so drawn to the mysteries of yoga. I have practiced ever since because inside I felt so connected and the need to learn more! I always turned to yoga when I felt lost or confused, especially during and after the college years when deciding your path in life. Sometimes the answers you seek are inside when people go running in circles trying to find them.
Do you have any role models? If so, who are they?
My role models are Kino Macgregor and Marcus Lemonis. People who seem pretty opposite, I know! Kino simply shines, and lives her full potential despite what people say about her and her more modern teachings and lifestyle. Marcus is a successful businessman who I truly hope to be like one day. Not because of his money or power, but because of his influence and the amount of struggling people he helps, and turns their lives around.
How do you define wellness?
BALANCE.BALANCE.BALANCE. Enjoy YOUR life, what YOU love, what excites YOU, what fulfills YOU! Wellness is living in your strengths and being in touch with your mind & body. You are unique and must treat yourself like the wonderful person you were meant to be.
How do you make wellness a priority?
Check in with yourself often. Simply live mindfully. Be in tune with emotions, thoughts, and energy. This keeps wellness a priority because you can make changes quickly to keep yourself happy and healthy when something isnt working out.
What advice do you have for anyone that is trying to incorporate more yoga into their lives?
Take on the challenge with open arms! Be patient in finding your own yoga. Everyone finds their own yoga through exploring different practices, exploring themselves, and patience. Embrace where you start and enjoy the journey because yoga is a lifestyle! So much more then how deep your downward dog is, or if you can touch your toes.
What is your spirit animal?
An owl! Intuitive, creative, visionary!
What is your theme song?
Good vibrations, by the beach boys
Any final words of wisdom?
Remember, You are what you think about all the time. As the mind, so the man.
