Professors, Use Mindfulness to Combat School Stress!

Summer is just about over, and for all of the Professors out there that means back to school (and back to work)! Saying goodbye to your summer routine can be pretty brutal, especially when you are in one of the hardest professions around. During your summer we’re sure you found plenty of rest, relaxation, and self-care. We don’t want you to lose all of that as soon as you set foot inside of your classroom!

Mindfulness is the perfect way to hold onto all of the goodness you’ve picked up over the summer. And while college students are certainly less rowdy than the K-12 crowd, they definitely bring a whole other set of frustrations that you need to protect yourself from. Get started with mindfulness so you can hold onto that summer chillness for the entire school year.

Why do Professors need mindfulness?

Whether you’re focused on teaching, research, or both, working as an educator at the college level is tough business. Not only are the hours long, the work requires a lot of concentration and focus. Oh and, we shouldn’t forget to mention those students that can’t seem to help themselves from hounding their professors for an A!

Mindfulness will help you find calm among all the craziness. Not only do you feel at peace while doing a mindfulness meditation, the peace and calm will carry with you throughout the day. Everyone, especially professors, deserve relaxation!

What are the benefits of mindfulness?

Mindfulness as a daily practice can re-wire the mind to reduce stress, increase focus, and create a sense of calm. And luckily, you don’t need to spend much time meditating to get all of these benefits. Just 5 minutes a day is enough to give your mind the boost it needs!

Share a mindfulness practice with your students!

Mindfulness is appropriate for everyone, and that’s why it’s a great thing to share with your students. If they seem off or can’t quite focus on your lesson plan, take just a few minutes to do a mindfulness exercise. Here are a few of my favorites!
