Yoga Poses for Stress

Don’t let daily life get the best of you. Take the edge off by finding quiet from the inside out. Yoga is a great way to reduce stress and calm the mind. When it comes to stress relief some yoga poses are particularly effective for promoting relaxation and tension relief.

The key to de-stressing is realizing how to calm the mind and be present. Check out these 4 yoga poses to help alleviate stress and anxiety.

1. Salutation Seal

Placing the hands in the center of our heart is a great way to induce a meditative state for deep relaxation and awareness. Centering your hands in the middle of your chest balances the harmony of the right and left side of your body. This balance can also be felt mentally and emotionally, bringing your thoughts and emotions to the center.

2. Easy Pose

Easy Pose grounds the body and calms the mind. Easy pose is performed for only 60 seconds, so it’s a great mid-day stress reliever. Aside from stress relief -- it opens your hips, lengthens the spine. When stressed out we tense up, exhausting our body.

3. Cat-Cow Pose

Cat-Cow pose is a gentle flow between two poses. The movement acts a massage to the spine and belly organs. Cat-Cow opens the chest with slow and deep breaths. The coordination between the movement and the breath relieves stress and calms the mind.

4. Extended Puppy Pose

Extended Puppy Pose is a great warm-up or closer to your yoga sequence. Extended Puppy Pose is one of those feel-good shapes, similar to Child’s Pose. Puppy Extended Puppy Pose is a cross between Child’s Pose and Downward Facing Dog. This move lengthens the spine, calms the mind and invigorates the body. This pose is said to help relieve symptoms of chronic stress, tension, and insomnia.

We have a lot to balance in our everyday lives. It’s important to remember to make time for yourself. Yoga is that perfect stress reliever and doesn’t require any special equipment, so you can do it almost anywhere. There are simple poses and complicated ones, so there is something for every ability.
